THE WORK

Peace City exists to interrupt cycles of gun violence before they escalate.

Our work is rooted in Community-Based Violence Intervention (CVI), an evidence-informed public safety strategy that reduces violence by working directly with individuals at the highest risk of involvement.

What is CVI?

Community-Based Violence Intervention, or CVI, is a public safety approach built on a simple but powerful idea: the people closest to the problem are closest to the solution.

Rather than waiting until violence occurs, CVI identifies individuals and conflicts at the highest risk of escalation and intervenes early through trusted relationships, conflict mediation, and ongoing support.

Across the country, CVI programs have helped reduce shootings, retaliation, and incarceration while strengthening the communities they serve.

Peace City is proud to have built a proven, locally rooted CVI program — designed by Oklahomans, for Oklahomans.

What Makes Us Different

What Makes Us Different

What Makes Us Different

We are of the community.

Peace City's PeaceMakers aren't outsiders.

They are respected leaders who have earned credibility through lived experience, relationships, and years of showing up for their neighbors.

They know the communities they serve because they are part of those communities.

Their authority doesn't come from a title. It comes from trust. And trust is often the difference between violence escalating or ending.

We operate in real time.

Most systems are designed to respond after violence occurs. Peace City works in the moments, days, weeks before.

So much of our work is unseen, in the conversations that never become confrontations, retaliations that never happen, and tensions get resolved without headlines.

Some of our greatest successes are moments the public never sees. And that’s the goal.

We are built for Oklahoma City.

Our city and its people are unique. So is our model.

We designed Peace City to specifically take into account our city’s expansive geography, interconnected communities, and neighborhood politics.
